30% of the population are unaware that they damage their teeth at night. Are you one of them?
Are you feeling fatigued? Is your sleep affected by tooth grinding and jaw clenching?
Nick Sheptooha Dental Practice is proud to bring you the latest in dental technology: the MCI. The MCI is a new generation mini-splint that inhibits the forces of clenching and grinding.
Bruxism / Tooth Grinding
Bruxism is the technical term for clenching and grinding of teeth. People who suffer from Bruxism unintentionally bite down too hard at inappropriate times, such as while they are sleeping. Grinding wears down and may fracture teeth, and may lead to gum and jaw problems.
Bruxism may be caused by stress, an unconscious attempt to smooth out a poor bite, sleep disorders or teeth that are missing or crooked.
The MCI
The MCI will prevent further damage to teeth and help to restore your bite. The MCI is a small appliance worn in the mouth similar to an orthodontic retainer or sports mouth guard.
Many people are unaware that they have Bruxism. If you wake up with dull headaches, facial pain, tooth ache or a sore jaw, you may be suffering from Bruxism. You may also have teeth that are painful or loose from severe grinding.
The Occlusal Splint
This clear acrylic device is the regular guard for treatment of bruxism. In a number of cases, it is still the best option to prevent wear of teeth and to help remove aching muscle symptoms.
Dr Sheptooha will be able to advise you as to which is the appropriate appliance for you.
Somnomed MAS
CPAP in mild to moderate cases of OSA. A sleep study is highly recommended for patients who snore loudly and or who may have symptoms of OSA such as lack of energy for daily activities, waking and gasping for air, falling asleep at meetings in the mid afternoons or whilst driving etc. This study will determine what is the best way to treat OSA.
Do you suffer from Snoring or OSA?
Snoring is a result of partial blocking of the upper airway due to muscles relaxing and sagging thus narrowing the airway.

Loud snoring may be a sign of a more serious problem – Obstructive Sleep Apnea. This is where the airway becomes completely blocked and breathing stops.
The Somnodent MAS
For treatment of snoring and OSA, the Somnodent is worn during sleep to maintain the patency of the upper airway. It is a simpler alternative to CPAP.
